Even if you've had lash extensions before, you may still have questions or come across common myths. Below, you'll find answers to frequently asked questions. Be sure to also check out our Aftercare and Policies pages for complete details.
โจ How long do eyelash extensions last?
The longevity of eyelash extensions varies from person to person. Hereโs a general guide:
๐ Natural lashes shed every 6 to 8 weeks, and since extensions are applied to mid-to-full-grown lashes, they typically shed completely within 5 to 6 weeks (meaning 50% of the lashes shed within half of that time)..
๐ Getting extensions for a special occasion? Book your appointment about 2 days prior to allow time for the lashes to settle before showering or washing your hair.
๐ฅ Want to maintain your lashes? Schedule fills every 2 to 3 weeks to keep them looking fresh! You must have at least 40% of extensions remaining per eye for it to qualify as a fill.
๐ Is it normal for my eyes to be red or itchy after an appointment?
Some redness is common immediately after an appointment, especially for those with sensitive eyes. This should subside within a few hours to 24-48 hours.
๐ก To minimize risks:
๐งผ Sanitation is keyโlash technicians must use sanitized tools, and clients should follow proper aftercare instructions.
โ ๏ธ Sensitive eyes? Let your technician know in advance so they can use appropriate products.
๐ If redness or irritation lasts beyond 48 hours or is bothersome, visit a doctor and contact your technician immediately.
๐จ Allergy Alert: Most lash adhesives contain latex. If you have a latex allergy, notify your technician before booking.**If you have had an allergic reaction to lash adhesive or medical tape in the past, please do not book a lash appointment as the odds of you having a reaction again are likely.
๐ค Whatโs the Difference Between Handmade vs. Pre-Made Volume Fans?
โ Customization & Precision
Handmade fans are tailored to the clientโs natural lash type, thickness, and curl, allowing for a more customized and natural look.
The artist can adjust the fanโs width and number of lashes to suit each lash, ensuring better balance and symmetry.
โ Better Bonding & Retention
Handmade fans are created and placed directly onto the natural lash, allowing the adhesive to wrap around the base of the fan more effectively.
This creates a stronger bond and improves retention since the adhesive cures to the natural lash, not just the base of a pre-made fan.
โ Lighter & Healthier for Natural Lashes
Handmade fans are typically lighter because theyโre created using thinner, finer lashes.
Less weight means less strain on the natural lashes, which helps maintain lash health over time.
โ More Flexibility with Styling
Artists can adjust the length, curl, and density of each fan to create more tailored looks (like wispy, spiked, or dense).
Pre-made fans often have a fixed shape and curl, limiting creative freedom.
โ No Stiff or Artificial Look
Handmade fans tend to look softer and more natural since they arenโt pre-set into a rigid shape.
Pre-made fans can sometimes give a "uniform" look that lacks dimension.
๐งผ Are eyelash extensions supposed to be cleaned?
YES! Keeping your lash extensions clean is essential to maintaining healthy natural lashes. Lash extensions should be cleaned daily (after the first 48 hours) to prevent oil buildup, bacteria, and debris that can weaken your natural lashes. If youโd like to purchase a lash cleanser, please let me know when booking your appointment so I can add it to your total price. ๐

โ Why are multiple lash extensions falling out together?
If you notice multiple lash extensions falling out attached to each other, here are a few possible reasons:
๐ข Tearing or watery eyes during your appointment can cause extensions to stick together.
๐ฟ Getting your lashes wet too soonโLash adhesive takes 24 hours to fully cure, so avoid water, steam, and moisture during this time.
๐ข๏ธ Oily skin or oil-based products can weaken the adhesive, leading to premature shedding.
๐งผ Not cleaning your lashes properlyโNatural lashes collect oil and debris. If they arenโt cleaned, buildup can cause them to clump and shed together.
โ To prevent this, follow all aftercare instructions carefully!
โ ๏ธ Are eyelash extensions harmful?
There's a common myth that lash extensions damage your natural lashes. The truth? When applied correctly by a trained professional, lash extensions are completely safe! ๐
โ
Properly applied extensions are attached one-by-one to individual natural lashes, ensuring no damage. You can continue getting them for as long as youโd like!
โ Improper application can cause damage if:
Extensions stick to multiple natural lashes, leading to breakage.
Extensions are too long or heavy for your natural lashes, causing strain.
๐ Choosing a skilled lash artist with lots of experience who understands proper technique is key! Always consult with your technician to determine the best length and volume for your natural lashes. Also, be sure to follow all pre-care and aftercare instructions to keep your lashes healthy.
๐ Can I wear makeup to my appointment?
Face makeup is okay but not preferred, as your skin should be completely clean and free of face creams, oils, or other products before your appointment. Oil products should not be used on your hair either. ๐ซ
โ Important Guidelines:
Do NOT wear mascara or false lash glue in the days leading up to your appointment. These can leave residue that prevents proper adhesion.
Lash extensions cannot be applied over eye makeup. If you arrive with eye makeup on, you may be sent away and still responsible for the full cost of your booking.
If I have time and no clients after you, I may be able to clean your lashes for an additional fee. However, this is not guaranteed. If extra time is not available, your appointment will be forfeited with no refund.
๐ To avoid any issues, it's best to arrive with a completely clean face! ๐
๐ค Is it normal for extensions to fall out within the first day or so?
Yes! Itโs completely normal to lose 1 to 4 natural lashes per day as part of the natural lash cycle. Since extensions are attached to your natural lashes, some fallout is expected within the first few days.
๐น Possible reasons for lash shedding:
๐ Your natural lashes are naturally shedding (this happens every 60-90 days).
๐ข๏ธ Oily skin or oil-based products can weaken the adhesive.
๐ฆ Getting your lashes wet/tearing too soon (within the first 24 hours) can impact retention.
๐ If you're experiencing excessive fallout, contact your lash artist to discuss possible causes and solutions!
๐๏ธ Can I swim with my eyelash extensions?
Yes! Many people get lash extensions specifically for vacations to enjoy a makeup-free look. ๐โจ
๐ Tips for the best results:
Book your appointment with enough time so your lashes donโt get wet for at least 24 hours after application.
For better retention, hybrid or volume lashes tend to last longer in water than classic sets.
As soon as you leave the water, wash your lashes as soon as possible! ๐ฆ Pool and beach water contain chemicals, salt, and other elements that can cause your lashes to harden, stick together, or weaken the adhesive. When on vacation, it's especially important to clean your lashes more frequently to keep them in the best condition. ๐โจ
